Applying the nine Edges across the candidate life domains
Use these as applications of the nine Edges to candidate domains. Red — brittle/dull describes an Edge that is weak or unused, or has become rigid, excessive, or distorted. Yellow — mixed/in progress describes a nonjudgmental, context-dependent or developing expression, not a score or diagnosis. Green — strong/sharp describes an Edge that is formed, useful, and responsive—not turned up to maximum. For each domain, compare what you experience internally with what you do or show externally.
Meaning, values & personal growth
| Edge | Red — brittle/dull — internal; external | Yellow — mixed/in progress — internal; external | Green — strong/sharp — internal; external |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direction | You chase endless self-improvement or feel adrift; you consume ideas without commitment or adopt aims to please others. | You are still clarifying what matters in this area; some choices follow a priority, while others are shaped by immediate demands. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You orient growth toward a purpose that matters; you choose learning and practices that serve it. |
| Craft | You expect instant transformation or doubt you can grow; you collect teachings without practice or repeat patterns without reflection. | You are building confidence through practice; some routines feel workable, while others still need learning or support. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You respect that wisdom and character develop through practice; you study, reflect, and apply learning consistently. |
| Alignment | You rationalize contradictions or become rigidly self-condemning; you preach values without embodying them or apply them without compassion. | You are weighing your values against real constraints; some choices feel congruent, while others remain unsettled. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You seek congruence between belief, value, and conduct; principles guide daily choices and course correction. |
| Stewardship | You feel empty or anxious about doing growth correctly; you neglect reflection or make practice compulsory performance. | You are tending this area unevenly; a few resources or responsibilities are managed intentionally, while others need attention. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You recognize attention, solitude, and emotional capacity need tending; you protect practices that sustain reflection. |
| Adaptation | You fear doubt or lack stable commitments; you cling to beliefs against evidence or adopt every framework uncritically. | You are adjusting to changing circumstances; some responses fit the new situation, while others still reflect the old one. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You revise understanding as experience and evidence deepen; you change practices without losing integrity. |
| Service | You grow only to feel superior or give yourself away to prove goodness; you judge others with insight or serve while neglecting your formation. | You are finding a workable balance between contributing and respecting capacity; what feels appropriate may vary by situation. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You see growth as useful beyond self-image; you use what you learn to contribute with humility. |
| Legacy | You live only for validation or feel burdened to be profound; values remain slogans or you chase spiritual reputation. | You are noticing longer-term effects, though immediate needs still shape some choices and patterns are continuing to develop. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You consider what values and patterns your life transmits; you embody and share what you hope will continue. |
| Integration | Your inner life is compartmentalized or one doctrine controls everything; you perform growth in one context while ignoring contradictions elsewhere. | You are connecting this area to some parts of your life more clearly than others; you are working out a sustainable fit. | You bring beliefs, relationships, work, body, and choices into conversation; growth appears in ordinary life. |
| Expression | You fear speaking or need to be seen as enlightened; you suppress meaning or turn expression into preaching and performance. | You are sharing some needs or ideas more readily than others; comfort and clarity may depend on the situation. (for example, depending on the season or circumstances). | You voice what you are learning while staying open; you articulate beliefs and questions without forcing agreement. |
