Week 2: Unearth Your Core Values Lecture: A man’s values are the foundation of his blade. Just as quality steel determines a sword’s strength, your core values determine the strength of your character. This week, we dig into what truly matters to you at your core. Discuss how living in alignment with one’s values creates integrity, direction, and self-respect. In a direct tone, remind participants that if a man doesn’t stand for something, he’ll fall for anything. Identifying values isn’t touchy-feely – it’s a strategic move to define your moral compass. Use real examples: perhaps honor, loyalty, freedom, family, growth, or honesty. Urge men to think of moments in life when they felt deeply satisfied or terribly offended – those moments often reveal core values. By the end of this session, each man will have a short list of his fundamental values. These values will serve as guiding principles throughout the Steady Burn program and beyond. Action: Identify your top 3–5 core values – the principles that you commit to live by no matter what. Steps to Take:

  1. Reflect on Highs and Lows: Think of a time when you felt completely in the flow or exceptionally proud of yourself – what value was being honored? Also recall a time you felt anger or disgust – what value was violated? These emotional peaks and valleys illuminate your true values.
  2. List and Refine: From the reflection, list at least five values that feel non-negotiable to you (for example: honesty, courage, accountability, compassion, etc.). Don’t choose what sounds good; choose what resonates in your gut. Then refine the list to your top 3–5 by asking, “Would I sacrifice comfort or gain to uphold this value?”
  3. Define Each Value: Write a sentence for each chosen value about what it means to you in action. For instance, “Family – I prioritize my family’s well-being and show up for them, even when it’s hard.” Defining your values in your own words gives them power and clarity. Reflection: “How have my actions in the past month aligned or misaligned with the core values I identified? What changes must I make to live more true to what I believe in?”
